The “5th Mango Fair - Cahua 2016” a resounding success

On February 20, the Agricultural, Livestock and Industrial Producers’ Association (ASPAIN) of the Cahua Community, held the “5th Mango Fair - Cahua 2016.” The fair, sponsored by Statkraft Peru, aims at promoting the different fruits produced locally, such as mango and avocado, and generating economic revenues for villagers with the sale of their produce. This year prizes were awarded to the biggest Cahuan mango, the best fair stand, the best mango commercial exhibition, the best fruit by-product, etc.
ASPAIN is a major producers’ association in the local area, which was created as part of the Fruit Production Project implemented by Statkraft in 2011 as part of its Corporate Responsibility activities. This project has benefited 26 local families, and has contributed to improve their productivity and trading, especially of the Kent variety.
The mango fair was attended by Mr. Vicente Rivera, regional advisor for Lima and provinces, who stressed the importance of the work performed by producers and congratulated “the friends in Cahua for their efforts to produce these delicious mangoes...” On the other hand, Rafael Humberth Caldas, President of ASPAIN, commented: “the mango fair keeps getting better and better every year, and I would like for it to continue improving with the support of Statkraft, the Regional Government and local authorities of the Cajatambo province...” Mr. Jorge Palomino, director of DREL; Mr. Willy Alva, mayor of the Province Municipality of Cajatambo; Alfredo Virwes, mayor of Gorgor, and several other authorities were among attendants.
